Second row James Ryan skippered Ireland Under-20s to the final of the 2016 Junior World Cup. After previously turning over New Zealand for the first time, Ryan’s side lost to England in the showpiece. He progressed into the Leinster academy for the 2016-17 campaign and then the full Ireland squad in 2017. Ryan made his Ireland debut before his Leinster bow as he played against the USA during the summer tour. He played for Leinster on his return and helped his province to the European Champions Cup and Pro 14 double in 2017-18. The side went on to make it three Pro 14 titles in a row. Ryan starred in the engine room as Ireland won the 2018 Grand Slam. He captained his country for the first time in 2020’s Autumn Nations Cup as his club and international skipper Johnny Sexton was out injured. Ryan laces up his Adidas Predator Malice Control boots.
