Wales rugby experienced a renaissance period when Warren Gatland took control after the 2007 World Cup. But despite their domestic success in their home tournament, World Cup success has continued to evade them . They suffered narrow losses in the 2015 and 2019 tournaments, both times to South Africa, finishing fourth place in the latter tournament, their best ever finish.
