Scotland lock Ben Toolis was born in Brisbane, Australia and represented the country as a youth international in volleyball. He also was part of the Australian National Rugby Academy. Toolis left GPS Old Boys down under for Edinburgh in 2012. He arrived at the club along with his twin brother and fellow second row Alex. Both had a short term loan at London Irish before returning north of the border. Toolis is eligible to represent Scotland courtesy of his mother Linda. He earned a spot in the national side for the 2015 Six Nations. He debuted against Italy off the bench and went on to earn a place in Gregor Townsend’s Rugby World Cup squad in Japan in 2019. Toolis has won 26 caps with 16 appearances from the starting XV and just the one try. He wears Adidas Kakari Elite boots for shifts in the engine room.
