Jamie Ritchie grew up in Dundee idolising another local lad in former Scotland captain Andy Nicol. He played for Scotland from Under-16s and in 2014 appeared at the Junior World Cup with the Under-20 side. He made his Edinburgh debut later that year as an 18-year-old. The flanker was capped by Gregor Townsend in June 2018 against Canada. He missed out on the 2019 Rugby World Cup after fracturing his cheekbone in the last warm-up game against Georgia. He won two man of the match awards in the 2020 Six Nations against France – when he was punched by prop Mohamed Haouas who saw red – and in Wales where Scotland won for the first time in 18 years. Ritchie is comfortable at 6 or 7 and prefers the Under Armour Magnetico Pro boots.
