Ellis Genge, by his own admission, is not from your usual rugby union background. Growing up on the West Knowle estate in Bristol none of his friends were into rugby. But after catching the eye as a steamrolling No8, Genge was moulded into a fearsome loosehead prop. He played for Hartpury College alongside current England team-mate Jonny Hill. He played all five matches for England-Under 20s in the 2015 Junior World Cup. Genge moved to Leicester Tigers on loan from hometown club Bristol in 2015/16 before making the switch permanent.
He made his senior Red Rose debut as a substitute against Wales in 2016 at Twickenham. Genge famously had boxing legends Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali emblazoned on his black boots. The physical prop grew up idolising Tyson and took the unorthodox step after cutting ties with his boot sponsor in 2017. Iron Mike even sent Genge a good luck message when he was with England in Japan for the 2019 World Cup. He was part of the squad that made the final before losing to South Africa. A fan of the traditional blacked out look, he now rocks the Mizuno Neo Pro3.
