Centre Garry Ringrose went to the 2014 Junior World Cup with Ireland Under-20s. He scored three tries on his way to helping the Emerald Isle to the semi-finals and suitably impressed. Not only was he shortlisted for the Junior Player of the Year award but Leinster coach Leo Cullen fast-tracked him into his Pro 12 side in September 2015. Ringrose almost made his Ireland debut off the bench in the infamous win over New Zealand in Chicago in 2016. But he wasn’t called upon and had to settle for his first cap the following week against Canada. Warren Gatland publicly said Ringrose was ‘unlucky’ not to make his 2017 British and Irish Lions touring party to New Zealand. Ringrose – who has struggled with injury problems – has scored eight tries in 30 international games, starting all four 2019 World Cup matches. He favours the Nike Mercurial Superfly Elite boots to aid his elusive running.
