Hooker Ken Owens has been known as The Sheriff ever since former Scarlets team-mate Dwayne Peel gave him the nickname as both his grandparents were mayors of Carmarthen. Owens played his club rugby for Llanelli RFC and made his debut for the Scarlets in 2006 after leaving UWIC RFC at university. He has spent his entire professional career at the Scarlets, for many years playing second fiddle to former Wales No2 Matthew Rees. Having played for Wales Under-19s, Owens won his first senior cap in 2011 at the Rugby World Cup. He played in all five games during the 2012 Six Nations Grand Slam. He played at the 2015 World Cup before being selected for the 2017 British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. He narrowly escaped giving a penalty away for offside in the dying moments of the deciding test. He starred in both the 2019 Six Nations Grand Slam and Rugby World Cup in Japan. Owens has appeared 79 times for Wales and chooses the Asics Le War Boots.
